Some clubs do not require you to guess the colours. Yellow and black are part of Borussia Dortmund’s identity, so the designer’s job is to find a new sentence inside a fixed grammar. For 2026/27, the choice was simple: bring white back.
Yellow and black: the familiar structure
The body leads with the club’s signature yellow, while black graphics run down from the shoulders in angular blocks. This is not a traditional set of stripes but a freer geometric split, giving the chest an asymmetrical rhythm.
Black trim on the collar and cuffs keeps the silhouette sharp. For older fans, the skeleton is familiar; for newer ones, it still feels modern rather than retro.
The return of white: an overlooked detail
What makes the shirt worth discussing is the reintroduction of white. According to published design information, this is the first time since 2006/07 that Dortmund has used white as an accent colour in the home kit. It appears in branding, fine lines and selected trim, opening up the otherwise severe yellow-and-black contrast.
Without white, a yellow-and-black shirt can read as a single high-contrast graphic. With it, the kit feels more like a complete match uniform and becomes easier to wear with everyday clothes. It is a small change that shifts the entire mood.
Fit and wearability
Puma’s fan version is cut for comfort, with room through the shoulders and chest. The player version is closer to the body. Choose your normal size for casual wear; if you plan to play in it, the fan cut is still the more practical option. The fabric is light and breathable, and yellow feels more energetic than dark colours in summer.
How to wear it
The safest pairing for a yellow-and-black shirt is an all-black bottom half: black cargos, black straight-leg denim or black shorts. With white back in the palette, you can also try white trousers or beige shorts for a pitch-to-street transition. Keep shoes black or white and avoid adding red or blue.
If a full yellow shirt feels too bright, use it as a layer under a black jacket and let only the front graphic show. You keep the club identity while lowering the styling difficulty.
Collector’s note
The return of white is enough to give this shirt a footnote in Dortmund’s kit history. The yellow-and-black base will never date, and this version adds a layer worth talking about. For club collectors, it deserves to be displayed next to the 2006/07 shirt.
